Paddy Day

No not Paddy’s Day. But as I have been feeling a little under the weather these last few days I thought I would have a look at what I was doing this time ten years ago to cheer myself up, perhaps.

Ten Years ago today I was staying in Sukhothai with a friend who runs the Ninety-Nine Guest House there (the best place to stay by far, far, far in this city) and exploring the countryside around it with my camera. Now there are hundreds of temples and ruins in this old Siamese capital and it is a great place to visit, a world heritage site no less and a worthwhile break on the usual, long journey from Bangkok to Chang Mai. I’d been there a while by January 21st obviously because despite the venerability of the history around me and the pinnacle and towered opportunities for images of iconic, ruin-dotted landscapes, I see that I noted in my diaries a certain feeling of being “templed-out” so was, instead, wandering around taking in the sites like the rice planting above.

Warm, still, relaxing times.

Can’t wait to get back someday. Hope it’s soon.

Talk later
