The blog of Tokyo based photographer and photojournalist, Damon Coulter

It was cloudy this morning with a few spits of rain but that not such a bad thing in the end as it allowed me to observe the total solar eclipse over Tokyo at 7:32 this morning without the special glasses that were expensive and all sold out by the time I got round to looking for them.

The school my sons go to opened early to allow everyone to watch the eclipse together. It also allowed me to photograph the school kids faces as they greeted each little peek of the sun from behind the clouds with loud and enthusiastic expressions of wonder.

The sun, in a perfect ring, was indeed impressive, but for me the kids reaction to this once in a lifetime event was even better.
