Snow Ropes

Some Yukitsuri on trees near Tokyo Tower.

It is cold but not snowing here in Tokyo. Other parts of Japan are suffering under metres of the stuff though. These ropes, a feature of many managed gardens in Japan, protect the branches of the tree from the weight of the snow as I wrote about before when I saw them first in Kanazawa’s beautiful Kenrokuen gardens.

  2. This is very strange, they must get a lot of snow if it damages the trees. Is it just the ornamental trees they worry about?

  3. Not in Tokyo, where very little snow falls usually but lots of other places get tonnes of the stuff and they do tie op the branches to protect them. Thanks for stopping by. Damon
