The record was touch and go at times, as Nico rolled the ham he was cutting zigzags, the ball of meat he had to lift out the way was getting bigger and heavier. Greaser too. It looked difficult to hold it all and delicately slice the meat but that was not the problem in the end, a miss-cut, caused by an imperfection in the strata of the meat, found the zag of an expertly cut zig finishing suddenly.
The last record set in 2008 was 13 metres and 32 centimetres long. Yesterday, despite the sudden ending, Nico managed to cut a piece of meat three centimetres longer at 13.35 metres. A new world record apparently and the first record I have personally ever seen broken anywhere.
A good day in all. But especially for Nico.
Apologies to my vegetarian friends!
