Keep the homefires burning


Amazing image, taken by an astronaut (can`t find which one – sorry) on the international space station late last year of the whole of the UK at night. Light pollution is something you get used to in Tokyo where it never really gets completely dark. But looking at my home country here it seems as if it is on fire.

I do remember the orange glow of cities colouring the horizon , even on climbing trips to the wildest, seemingly remote, mountain areas of the the UK. Looking at this image it is easy to see why.
