Invitation

ole0[1]

Groucho Marx once said that he would not like to belong to any club that would have him as a member. In the world of the super rich, you see, there is serious exclusivity. I got to be a tourist in that world a few months ago for a commercial job at a very expensive apartment complex in Tokyo. While it was fun to wander around the very beautiful apartment (complete with jacuzzi on the rooftop sundeck) taking pictures and bossing models around; especially as I don`t get to do that sort of work very often being mostly an editorial photographer, there is no way I could ever even dream of  belonging in that world of marble, dark wood and gleaming glass. Some people do though and those are probably the ones that got the invitation above with one of my images on the front.

They never quite use the ones you think they would but it is nice when you get to see the results of how clients have used your pictures. Especially as I would never get this sort of invitation myself. It being very exclusive and all that.

Very late, time for bed.

Talk soon.

  1. He he he. When Queen last came to Japan I ended up taking most of the band out to dinner (sister’s connections). When the conversation turned to “What are you doing over the new year?”, we couldn’t keep up. Who else can drop in the idea of playing live in Times Square and mean it? Different world!

Your so right about how they never use the photos you expect. Had a look on the Grosvenor website and the one above is there on the front page but flipped!
Nice work – hope they paid well

  3. They did pay well Andy, though you always think, and i am pretty sure, i could have asked for more. There was a funny quote on Jeremy Sutton Hibberts blog a while back that said. ” what the client doesn`t know is that you would have done it for half the price and what you didn`t know was that they would have paid twice as much.” or something like that. More of these jobs would keep the wolf from the door though.
It is a different world true Nick and it was great being a tourist in there. My models, in fact, loved it so much that I ended up taking some pictures personally for them (that didn`t fit the brief) where they were enjoying the room. it truely was an amazing place and if you have 1,000,000 Yen a month to spend on rent (for the cheapest apartment that is by the way) I highly recommend it.
